What is grading?

Grading is the technical process by which all sizes of a garment are developed, starting from the paper pattern of the sample size. This is not simply a matter of enlarging or reducing the size: each size is calculated using specific proportional increments to ensure a correct fit.

Poor grading is immediately apparent: garments that fit well in size M but are unbalanced in extreme sizes. This is why it is essential to rely on expert patternmakers who understand the rules of the human body.

Frequently asked questions

Grading is the process of developing sizes starting from a basic paper pattern. Each size is calculated with specific proportional increments to ensure a correct fit on all body shapes.

It depends on the target audience. A standard size range includes 5-6 sizes (XS-XL or 38-48). For specific positioning such as plus size or petite, you can opt for extended or customised size ranges.

The cost of grading depends on the number of sizes and the complexity of the garment. As a rough guide: €40-60 per size for simple garments, €60-100 for complex garments. We offer packages for complete collections.
