What is grading?

Grading is the technical process by which all sizes of a garment are developed, starting from the paper pattern of the sample size. This is not simply a matter of enlarging or reducing the size: each size is calculated using specific proportional increments to ensure a correct fit.

Poor grading is immediately apparent: garments that fit well in size M but are unbalanced in extreme sizes. This is why it is essential to rely on expert patternmakers who understand the rules of the human body.

Inclusive sizes and plus sizes

Grading for sizes above XL requires special attention: it is not enough to simply continue with standard increments. The body changes proportions and requires a specific grading to ensure comfort and fit even in larger sizes.
